How does red light therapy work?

When it comes to red light therapy, there’s many different facts, myths and opinions floating around that make it hard to understand if it actually works. It’s fast becoming a popular method for a variety of practitioners, gyms and spas to offer.

In this article, we’ll take a deeper look into how red light therapy works, debunking any myths, and going into the science behind red light therapy, and whether it works for you.

The science: how does red light therapy work?

Red light therapy (also known as low-level laser therapy) uses specific wavelengths of red light and near-infrared light.

These wavelengths are absorbed by chromophores, light-sensitive molecules within your cells, particularly in the mitochondria.

The mitochondria are often referred to as the “powerhouses” of the cell, responsible for generating energy (ATP) for cellular processes. Red light therapy is applied to a wide range of treatments such as wound healing, inflammation, and body contouring (source).

Research suggests that red light therapy can influence the mitochondria in several ways, potentially leading to positive effects (source):

✓ Enhanced Mitochondrial Function

The light absorption by chromophores during red light therapy treatments may stimulate mitochondrial activity, leading to increased ATP production which helps to produce more cellular energy that is paramount when it comes to repair and regeneration – meaning faster wound healing, and enhanced regeneration of cells.

✓ Reduced Inflammation

During red light therapy, certain wavelengths can help with immune cells and inflammatory pathways, potentially reducing inflammation and promoting healing.

✓ Increased Cellular Energy Using Low Wavelengths & Photobiomodulation

With the use of lower wavelengths seen in red light therapy (around 630-670nm) and some near-infrared wavelengths (around 780-850nm), research suggests it can be particularly effective in photobiomodulation, increasing positive biological changes within the cells. (source)

Thanks to its non-invasive, low recovery measures, it doesn’t cause any trauma to the skin, unlike other procedures such as pulsed light therapy.

Red light therapy is being adopted into many different practices, gyms, spas and even online shopping channels across the USA, and is vastly becoming a popular, more preferred method to healing scars & wounds, boosting mood and even contributing to fat loss.
Patients often see results in as little as 3 weeks. Read more here: How long does red light therapy take to work?

Narrow-Light LLRT Technology Can Deliver Even Better Results, Quicker

Building on the existing understanding or red light therapy, MedWave™ utilizes a revolutionary approach called Narrow Light Technology™.

Narrow light technology utilizes multiple LED panels with a more focused delivery compared to traditional styles. This makes narrow light technology two to three times more powerful than leading panels on the market.

With each light panel having 5-watts of power, it helps to speed up processes delivered from classic LLRT, so expect to see an increase in ATP production, faster healing properties and a more effective inch loss journey.

This clinically-tested technology offers a more focused delivery, with more LED panels than your average red light therapy, each light holds around 5 watts of power, making it two to three times more powerful than other competing panels on the market.

With a wavelength of 635 nanometers, our Narrow Light Technology delivers inch loss and body contouring through a safe and comfortable treatment experience.

MedWave™ Narrow Light Technology has undergone rigorous clinical studies to ensure its safety and efficacy. Each LED panel in our system packs more power than competing technologies, potentially leading to faster treatment times. [Here we would insert findings from your clinical trials once they are completed]

While results may vary, we have seen proven, positive results from our Narrow Light Technology. [for content here we would add before and after photos, graphs showing improved data etc]
